MARDIN (DIHA) - Selling a total of 150 albums
including Ahmet Kaya's 'Şafak Türküsü' in addition
to a wide fan of albums by Diyar, Ferhat Tunç, Grup
Yorum and Songül Karlı have been banned in music
markets in Mardin.
Music shops' owners said most of the banned albums
consisted of best sellers, and if the same
inhibition continued they would have to close their
stores.
Whilst it is recoded in the international meetings
that restrictions on Kurdish had been lifted with
harmony laws in the European Union (EU) process,
Kurdish albums are still being put under ban; the
number of prohibited albums listed in an official
statement Mardin Governorship released has arrived
at 150, including Diyar's and Hemê Hecî's all
albums, Ahmet Kaya's 'Şafak Türküsü' and 'Şarkılarım
Dağlara' along with some albums of Ferhat Tunç,
Songül Karlı and Aynur Doğan. "To still live such an
injustice is shame'' said the owners of music shops
reacting to the prohibition.
Alattin Erdem, owner of a music shop in Mardin who
pointed out it the best selling albums that have
been prohibitied from being sold, said " Diyar's,
singer, Gule Neçe release, which is one of the best
selling releases in the city, had been taken in the
list of banned albums. To those customers of ours
who came to buy this album, we say the album had
been banned, so we cannot sell. Hearing this, the
costumers are raising reaction to the ban asking why
Gule Neçe release had been banned though it has no a
political content. The prohibition is almost valid
for the whole [Kurdish] cassettes and CD's"
Besides, Aynur Doğan's ''Keça Kurda'' is under a
ban, says Erden, "The release had been prohibited
because of a song included in the album, 'Keça
Kurdan'. This banned song has been used in some
television serials by several TV channels as well as
some programs other. ''I have not been able to
understand anything from this", added Erden.
From Ahmet Kaya to Grup Yorum
Şeyhmus Erden, music shop owner, told they had been
called to Kızıltepe/Mardin Security Directorate and
given the list of banned albums in exchange of
signature. "The reason why these releases had been
banned was not told us", said Erden, and added that
"In one hand, the ruling Justice and Developmet
Party (AKP) government defends to have lifted
prohibitions on Kurdish; on the other hand it has
banned Kurdish releases".
"We sell the releases of all singers and bands;
however, the best sold albums Kurdish ones here.
Namely, almost the whole of best cassettes or music
CD's are Kurdish. If this prohibitive comprehension
is not given up, we cannot conclude any sales at
all. We have come to such a state that hardly we can
deal in a cassette in a day", continued Şeyhmus
Erden.
In addition to banned Kurdish releases there is a
number of Turkish albums prohibited, too. The most
striking of the banned albums is 'Böyle olur mu' by
Songül Karlı, one of Turkey's most famous
singeresses. Furthermore, lots of albums by Ahmet
Kaya, Ferhat Tunç, Grup Yorum, Grup Munzur and like
had been prohibited.
Troubadours (Dengbêj in Kurdish) taking a place of
great importance in Kurdish Music did also get their
share of ''pleasure'' from the bans. "As known,
being a troubadour is the beginning of Kurdish
Music. The releases by
troubadours such Dengbêj Mahmudê Hesê, Fadilê
Kufragi as Husênkê Omeri had also been included in
the prohibited albums' list", said Erden.
