DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, July 10 (AFP) - 14h20 -
Three Turkish policemen were wounded in an attack by
Kurdish rebels and five civilians were hurt in a
separate landmine blast Sunday, security forces
said.
In the first incident at Hozat, eastern Turkey,
suspected Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) rebels
attacked a police post outside the residence of a
local administration official, injuring three
officers on duty.
In the second, a lorry ran over a landmine probably
planted by the PKK near Sirnak, in southeast Turkey
near the Kurdish border.
The lorry's five occupants were injured.
The Kurdish conflict has claimed up to 37,000 lives,
most of them between 1984 and 1999, when the PKK
waged a militant campaign for self-rule.
Between 1999 and June last year the group declared a
unilateral ceasefire, but the number of attacks has
increased since that ended a year ago.
On Saturday, three Turkish soldiers were killed and
13 wounded when their vehicle hit a landmine near
Semdinli, in the far southeast.
