launch TV station broadcasting programmes in
Turkish" published by Turkish newspaper Milliyet
website on 29 June
After establishing Kurdistan TV and Zagros TV, which
broadcast their programmes via a satellite, the
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) [with headquarters
in northern Iraq] now plans to launch Botan TV,
which will be viewed along Turkey's common border
with Iraq.
Kurdistan TV currently broadcasts programmes in
Turkish for one hour every day while Zagros TV's
broadcast schedule allocates one hour in the morning
and one hour in the evening to programmes in
Turkish. The programmes broadcast by the KDP-controlled
TV stations can be viewed by using satellite dishes.
Meanwhile, the KDP has also started preparations in
order to launch a regional TV station, which will be
viewed in Sirnak and Hakkari [southeastern Turkey].
The regional TV station, which will be called Botan
TV, will broadcast news programmes in Kurdish and
Turkish in addition to documentaries about the
Kurdish-populated areas in northern Iraq and Kurdish
language courses. A technical team made up of
technicians employed by some local TV stations in
Diyarbakir is also involved in the process of
establishing Botan TV. The team also provides
equipment.
The TV stations controlled by the KDP also publish
reports on their web site for their audience in
Turkey. The web sites, including Peyamner and Kirkuk-Kurdistan,
contain reports in Turkish and Kirmanci, a dialect
spoken by the Kurdish community in Turkey.
