Qamishlo: Syria
(Kurdistan), July 6 - Eleven Kurdish children
accused of insulting the Syrian president Bashar
Assad and branded as 'enemies of the state' stood on
July 5 before a Syrian judge in the city of Hesicha
(Haseke) southwest of Qamishlo.
The children had been arrested during last months'
demonstrations in Qamishlo. They are accused of
"creating a group", "doing bad things", "insulting
President Esad and the national flag". It was not
stated what exactly "doing bad things" was or what
kind of "group" they were trying to create.
The judge postponed the court ruling to July 21. The
families and lawyers of the children stated that the
children had admitted to the crimes during torture
in prison and the court should therefore acquit
them.
The names of the accused children in western
Kurdistan (northern Syria) are Siud Hisźn Īsa, Mīlad
Ebdilhelīm Hesen, Husam Umer Umer, Xezwan Nasir
Newaf, Astī Besīr Melkī, Fīras mehmud Sefkan, Hejar
Mejdel Ucź, Wesīm Ebdilhemīd Yūsiv, Dilsad Mihemed
Yūsiv, Cīhad Ekrem Mihemed and Samī Umer Hisźn.
