Sulaimanyah International Airport to Open

The Sulaimanyah International Airport, SIA, is ready
to open, according to Kamaran Ahmed, supervisor of
the SIA. Ahmed said that this week, the airport will
receive the first experimental flight, which will be
a plane flying in from Baghdad. After that flight,
the airport will officially open. The first official
flight will come from Jordan, carrying Planning
Minister Barham Salih and Transportation Minister
Salam al-Maliki.

Sunnis Oppose Federalism in South

Adnan al-Dulaimi, head of the Sunni Endowment, said
talking about the federalism in the south is a
dangerous topic, which will lead to more violence in
Iraq and the region. He added that Sunnis have
declared their opposition to this issue. Iraqi
officials are trying to lessen disagreements in
order to have the constitution written before the
August 15 deadline.

Sunni Clerics to Hold Conference

Sunni clerics in Iraq are preparing to hold a
general conference by the end of this week. The
conference will include edicts to allow
participations in the political process, the
referendum on the constitution, and the coming
elections. There will also be edicts that prohibit
targeting the supreme election commission members in
Baghdad and other provinces. The conference will ask
all Iraqis to reject sectarianism and ethnicity and
to stop targeting the clerics and men of thought,
especially the Shia clerics.

Iraqi Police Discover Rockets at Kuwaiti Embassy

The American army said the Iraqi police have
prevented an attack on the Kuwaiti Embassy in Iraq.
On Sunday morning, Iraqi police discovered many
rockets near the outer fence of the embassy
building. Explosive experts have defused them.

Sadr Collecting Signatures for Troop Withdrawal
(Baghdad)
The young Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has launched a
campaign to collect one million signatures
requesting the withdrawal of the multi lateral
forces, adding that he is working within the
political process. He added that federalism in the
south is an issue for the people to decide. He also
blessed the efforts of the United Nations to spread
stability in Iraq.

Iraq, Neighbors May Meet to Discuss Borders

Foreign Affairs Minister Hooshiar Zeebari said the
ministers of interior affairs of the neighboring
states may meet in Istanbul to discuss the issues of
protecting the borders and the infiltration of
insurgents into Iraq. Zeebari also accused Saddam
Hussein's henchmen of killing Egyptian Ambassador
Ihab al-Sherif.

Ja'afari: Saddam Trial is an Iraqi Issue

Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Ja'afari said the trial of
Saddam Hussein is an Iraqi issue in which no one has
any right to interfere. He said it will be a good
example for the transparency and integrity of the
independent Iraqi judicial board. He added that the
entire world should know about the crimes Saddam
committed against the Iraqi people, who should have
the final word about his fate.
