Kurdistan Parliament:
Kirkuk must be normalized
(Kurdistani New)
In yesterday's session, the Iraqi Kurdistan National Assembly confirmed
that Article 58 of the Transitional Administrative
Law must be implemented and should not be delayed.
The article calls for the normalization of places
that had faced ethnic cleansing during the Saddam
Hussein era, such as Kirkuk. In the session, the
deputies called on the committee in charge of
implementing the article to start work in the issue.
In the Iraqi National Assembly, Kurdish lawmakers
also called for the implementation of the article,
saying delaying this issue will bring more crises to
the situation.

Kurds Disappointed by Delay of Article 58
(Al-Taakhi)
National Assembly member Mahmood Othman said the
Kurds were disappointed because Article 58, which is
clear and frank, has not been implemented. He said
the application of this article was postponed by
successive authorities.
He added that Kurds hope the Ibrahim al-Ja'afari
government will start applying it since there is a
person responsible for it with a budget and members
to help him on that issue. He said there is no need
to put it off until the constitution is finished
because it is a humanitarian, political, and
economic issue. He noted that thousands of Kurds
live in tents, waiting to return to their houses.

Sistani Leaves Southern Federalism Up To Iraqis
(Al-Mutamar)
Hamid al-Khaffaf, spokesman for the office of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani,
has denied reports of al-Sistani rejecting a
proposal to establish federalism in Basra, Nasiriya,
and Amara. He added that Sistani leaves these issues
to the Iraqis to decide through the National
Assembly and he would like to see Iraq strong and
united. He also agrees with the preferences of
Iraqis.

issued daily by the Iraqi National Congress.)
