Barzani: Kirkuk
Should Be Dealt With in Reasonable Way
(Al-Mada)
Iraqi Kurdistan
President Massoud Barzani said Kirkuk is part of the
Kurdistan region and called to change it to a
typical ethno-religious city. He added that the
Kirkuk issue is so sensitive that it should be
reasonably treated. He clarified that Kurds do not
agree with keeping this issue as it is. He said
Kurds displaced by Saddam Hussein must return to
Kirkuk and Arabs must go back to their original
places, too. The interim law stated that all the
disagreements about this issue should be postponed
until the drafting of the constitution and the
referendum on it. Barzani added that Kirkuk is
historically part of Kurdistan, but that doe not
mean it is for Kurds only. He said it is for Kurds,
Turkoman , Chaldean-Assyrians, and original Arabs of
Kirkuk.

concern is to oust the foreign forces. He asked the
Iraqi police and army not to provoke the Iraqi
people and to not be trapped by the foreigners. He
said the reason behind all of the difficulties and
problems Iraq faces is the foreign forces. He added
that the main issue is the independence of Iraq and
once that is achieved, Iraq will avoid sectarianism
