Opinion: Constitution
Should Not be Delayed
By: Falah al-Mishaal
(Al-Sabah, 12 July 2005)
Iraqis still remember the fight with the insurgents during the elections,
which drew the attention of the entire world that
admired the defiant souls of Iraqis to destroy
terrorism and violence. Iraqis who watch the
National Assembly write the constitution and set
preparations for the coming elections will find its
committees working hard to achieve their duties and
running fast towards democracy. Now, there are some
who call for postponing writing the constitution
until after the elections. These calls do not
coincide with the will of the voters who
participated in the previous elections, despite the
big threats of the insurgents. They try to halt the
political process and are meeting the calls of the
terrorists and the old regime's men who try to spoil
democracy and freedom. The National Assembly should
go ahead in its mission of writing the constitution
and establishing the elections because these are the
people's requests and goals.

Opinion: Public Awareness Needed for Constitution
By: Hassan Abood
Hassan (Al-Iraq al-Yoom, 13 July 2005)
There are some conditions Iraqis should bear in mind while they
participate in the referendum on the constitution to
render it legal and lawful. Among these conditions
is that we should not practice the same mistakes of
the previous elections and it should be presented in
a democratic way, away from internal and external
interferences. The goal of the referendum is to make
people aware that they are going to decide the most
important issue related to their future. The
referendum should be proceded by workshops to keep
the people informed of the articles and subjects of
the constitution. This is the responsibility of the
elites and men of thought who believe in serving the
public.

Editorial: Insurgents Can't Stop Army, Police
Recruits
(Al-Bayan, 11
July 2005)
Once again, the insurgent groups revealed their
desperation and failure in stopping the youth from
joining the police and army to serve Iraq. On July
10, one insurgent wearing a belt of explosive
materials detonated himself among recruits, killing
many of them and wounding many others. They still
practice killing in cold blood to compensate their
failure. But that will not halt the people from
joinining the security forces and to chase the
assailants to stop terrorism and eliminate it. The
repetition of targeting the recruitment centers
needs to have an accurate security plan to protect
the targeted places and to oppose the terrorists to
not give them an extra chance to practice their
criminal acts. We need to have many operations like
that of the "Lighting" to dry up the streams of
terrorism all over Iraq.
