Arbil, 25 July (AKI) - Iraqi Kurdistan's
president, Massoud Barzani, has been invited by US
president, George W. Bush, to visit the United
States for discussions on the political process in
Iraq and bilateral cooperation, Kurdish sources on
Tuesday told Adnkronos International (AKI). The
invitation was delivered to Barzani by US deputy
assistant secretary of state for Middle Eastern
affairs, David Sutterfield, when the two met in Iraq
on the 20 July.
Barzani has already visited USA in 1999, when Bill
Clinton was president, reaching an agreement with
rival Jalal Talabani, who at the time was head of
Kurdistan's Patriotic Union (PUK) and is now Iraq's
president. |
