Kurdish sources refusing Internationalization
confirmed holding secret Turkish meetings with Iraqi
parties
Baghdad - Kurdish sources have confirmed
holding secret Iraqi Turkish talks to discuss the
project of the permanent constitution draft. On the
other hand, the Kurdistani Democratic Party, headed
by Masud Barzani, considered that "the Iraqi issue
should not be internationalized as this would open
the door for regional interference."
A Kurdish source has confirmed that the Turkish
foreign ministry, in cooperation with the Middle
East Studies and Turkish Balkan has held meetings
with Iraqi leaders in Abant Lake Resort near Bolu
city, to discuss "the sensitive issues in the
constitution, which would affect the interests of
Turkey and its national security, especially Kirkuk,
the federal system that the Kurds insist on and the
issue of the Kurdistani Workers' Party, which is
opposing Turkey and has bases in the north of Iraq."
The source, who refused to be named, said that the
participants in these meetings for two days are:
Othman Kura Atorq, the Turkish envoy to Iraq,
Hussein Awni, official of the Iraqi issue in the
Turkish foreign ministry, in addition to 35 Iraqis
from the Sadri trend, the United Coalition slate,
the Supreme Council of Islamic Revolution, the
Islamic Federation for Iraqi Turkmen, including
Abbas Al Bayati and Riyadh Sari Kaya (the two
Turkmen MPs), and other cultural and political
identities. He denied that Kurdish leaders have
called for the "unofficial and undisclosed" meeting.
On his behalf, Farah Al Haydari, a leader in
Barzani's party, said, "In case these annual
meetings are true, then they are an indication of a
dangerous trend." he added, "Preparing the
constitution, applying its articles and solving the
local issues, including the normalization of
conditions in Kirkuk, are all local issues that no
country neighboring Iraq is allowed to interfere in,
under any motto, as this does not serve the national
unity and the security and sovereignty of Iraq, and
would open the door for the interference of other
countries in its affairs."
