A
member of the Kurdistan coalition, who is also a
member of the Iraqi permanent constitution drafting
committee, stated that any text in the new
constitution saying that Iraq is a part of the Arab
nation will be rejected by the Kurdish
representatives.
Kamaran Khayri Sa'ed told Sharq al_Awsat in an
interview: "Iraqi Arabs are a part of the Arab
nation and the Kurds are a part of the Kurdish
nation, but Iraq does not consist of Arabs only,
Kurds, Turkomans, Kildans and Assyrians live in
Iraqas well."
He also said: "We as Kurds do not deny that Iraqi
Arabs are a part of the Arab nation, but not al of
Iraq and the new Iraq must realize that."
In another part of the interview, Kamaran Khayri
Sa'ed told the newspaper: "there is dispute in the
Constitution drafting committee regarding the nature
of the political and federal systems", he also
emphasized that those who are against federalism
will damage the unity of Iraq because Kurds live in
Iraq in a voluntary federalism not in a forced one.
