Kurdistan Leaders Send Condolences To PM Blair 9.7.2005

London (KRG) July 8 - President Masoud Barzani and Nechirvan Barzani, prime minister of Kurdistan Regional Government, sent messages of condolence and support to Prime Minister Tony Blair following the terrorist attacks in London on Thursday.

“On behalf of myself and the people of the Kurdistan Region, I express my heartfelt condolences following the tragic events in London today,” President Masoud Barzani said.

“We too have suffered the pain from the loss of life and injuries through such incidents. Such terrorist attacks, however, have not weakened our resolve to build on the foundations of freedom and democracy and to continue on the path to peace. We stand by you in the defence of freedom and the determination to maintain peace and to defeat those who use violence to further their aims.”

Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani’s message also offered Kurdistan’s support in the fight against terrorism and reiterated the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to democracy and peace.

“My heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved families who will feel the loss of loved ones for the rest of their lives.

“The proud people of Britain have endured dark days at the hands of terrorists before. Yet each time they have shown their resolve not to be cowed by such barbaric attacks and to continue to live in freedom and liberty.

“We stand united with you in the determination not to capitulate to violence and we offer our support and friendship at this difficult time.”

About 50 people were killed and hundreds injured in London after four explosions tore through underground trains and a bus on Thursday. British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said the attacks bore the hallmarks of the Islamic militant al Qaeda network responsible for the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States and the Madrid train bombings last year.
