Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), and head of the
parliamentary commission tasked with writing the
legal framework for the new Iraq. He said he was
certain that "we will succeed in presenting the
draft by the 15 August deadline". |

President : Jalal Talabani (Mam Jalal) |
Hammudi admitted that "there are still conflicting
points of view on some questions, such as the
federal nature of the new state". According to the
Baghdad daily Al Mendhar, the temporary
constitutional framework "divided the country into
three governorates but this paragraph is currently
being studies by the committee that could decided to
icnrease the number of provices and give autonomy to
the province of Kurdistan"
The committee, presided by Hammudi, is working
overtime to meet the 15 August deadline for the
draft constitution that will then be put to a
referendum in mid-October. If approve the charter
will represent the base for the new Iraqi elections
to be held in December.
