ISTANBUL (DIHA) - Italia Toscana State Council
Deputy Sandro Targetti drew attention to the
applications in F-type prisons, operations and said:
"Turkish Army still continues killing Kurds and
Turkish leftists. How can 9 thousand people be
imprisoned because of their thoughts.
Can a country with 10% national threshold be
democratic? It must be understood that Kurd problem
and approach to Ocalan is very important to solve
the problems. We want equality and freedom
conditions of other captives for Ocalan. We are
planning to form a committee and research the prison
conditions in Turkey."
Italia Toscana State Council Deputy Sandro Targetti,
who came to Turkey to participate in "Isolation and
Struggle against Isolation Symposium", stated that
there have been no progress in Turkey to stop the
torture. Targetti answered DIHA's questions and
stated that nothing has changed in Turkey and
Turkish Armed Forces' operations and the incidents
in F-type prisons are evidences that the torture
still exists in Turkey.
'If the operation continues the torture continues
too'
Targetti emphasized that there will be torture in
the country in which the operations still continue
and people are imprisoned because of their thoughts
and she said: "Turkish Army still continues to kill
Kurds and Turkish leftists in Turkey. Although
Turkey told that it took important steps to stop the
torture and there had been a progress in that
matter, it is clear that it did not. What is
important for us is not what authorities say but
what human rights associations and aggrieved people
say. It is understood that no tolerance to torture
thought is not realistic."
'No democracy"
Targetti stated that they took some attempts to
discuss the human rights violations and tortures in
Turkey in Italy and said that the isolation in the
F-Type prisons must be ended. Targetti drew
attention that the isolation is also valid for the
people not in the prison and said "Silence isolation
on isolation must also be broken. How can 9 thousand
people be imprisoned because of their thoughts. Can
a country with 10% national threshold be democratic.
If I am kept in prison since I want my rights and
identity to be accepted there is no democracy in
that country. We must shout not tto let people to
die in prisons. Torture is inhuman".
'They are buried in silence''
Targetti stated that the prisoners in Europe choose
that with how many people they will stay and wanted
the same conditions in Turkey. Targetti emphasized
that detainees and convicts in Turkey have no social
activities and she said: "Captives in Turkey are
buried in silence. This is a torture. People cannot
be kept in these conditions. All political detainees
must be released, better conditions should be
established in prisons. No one should die for the
life and struggle right".
'Conditions of Ocalan are terrible'
Targetti stated that there is a terrible isolation
in Imrali F-type prison. Targetti drew attention
that the isolation of Ocalan is going worse everyday
and she said:
"Italian government is also responsible for Ocalan's
situation. If Italy gave Ocalan political asylum
these would not be experienced. Everybody must
understand that Kurd problem and approach to Ocalan
is very important to solve the problems. We want
equality and freedom conditions of other captives
for Ocalan."
'We are planning to send a committee'
Targetti stated that some measurements should be
taken to stop right violations and all these
problems should be solved. Targetti stated they will
demand from AKP government to send a committee to
watch the situation F-typr prisons and she said:
"We have to witness what happens in the prisons.
Many people tell us their sorrows they experienced
in prisons. We, as Europeans, wanted Turkey to
become a modern country and show respect to human
rights. But we see that there are still human rights
problems in Turkey. I want to ask authorities that
in what kind of condition the detainees are kept,
how they live and why they face these kind of
conditions. We are planning to form a committee and
send it to Turkey next autumn".
