Turkey-Kurdistan : Five Turkish Soldiers Killed
In Northern Kurdistan.
The People's Defence Forces [HPG] guerrillas have
carried out an attack on a military Land Rover
carrying 13 Turkish soldiers in the area near
Balikli Gol, part of the Taslicay district of Agri,
in retaliation for the killing of Fahrettin Inan by
soldiers in Van.
The retaliatory attack, carried out on 22 June,
resulted in five soldiers being killed and seven
including one officer being wounded. In the wake of
this action, in which no HPG guerrillas lost their
lives, the Turkish army initiated a wide ranging
operation in the area.
The military operations are expanding
Meanwhile, according to an HPG statement, the
Turkish army is expanding its operations. According
to HPG statement an operation by the Turkish army in
the Cicay Cemcede and Geliye Kalo areas of Agri on
18 June ended inconclusively, while the operation
started in the rural area of Eleskirt district is
still ongoing.
A comprehensive operation begun yesterday morning in
the Melikan, Muskerek, Cet and Rengul areas of
Tunceli.
