Lawyers of Ocalan: Ocalan is the person to
stop the clashes

ISTANBUL (DIHA) - Asrın law firm attorneys
stated that Turkey took a dangerous route,
emphasized that an unreturnable process will start
if this is insisted on and drew attention that
Ocalan is the only person to stop the clashes.
Attorneys stated that the press and intellectuals
have an important responsibility in this tense
atmosphere and said: "Prohibition on Ocalan's
lawyers is the last degree of those unjust and
unlawful tendencies. This tendency is against
Turkey's future. To turn out this to be useless is
the duty of all society".

Attorneys of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Ocalan
assessed last 6 years and drew attention that a
dangerous level both for Turks and Kurds is reached.
Attr. İrfan Dündar stated that the Ocalan trial has
become the trial of century and the political
character of the trial is very important. Dündar
stated that Ocalan was behaved as "slaver" under
very strict security measures and he said: "Mr
Ocalan has strived a lot to democratize Turkey
although he has been treated negatively and made his
trial a peace call. The main thing Mr. Ocalan has
tried to do for 6 years is to create a peace
process. This approach has not been perceived right
by a sector of society and authorities".
'Turkey is losing a great chance'
Dündar stated that all the politics in Turkey has
started over Imrali and said that last developments
have served for the compilation of the conspiracy on
Ocalan. Dündar stated that Jalal Talabani's becoming
Iraq President, Massoud Barzani's becoming president
of Federal Kurdistan and efforts for deactivating
Ocalan are not by coincidence and he said:
"These developments are the part of conspiracy
against Ocalan. Since Mr. Ocalan is the only force
producing alternative politics, they want to put him
aside. They want to end the conspiracy with
isolation politics. Mr. Ocalan has an important role
in the democratical political solution of Kurd
problem. Efforts of Ocalan are not understood right
by Turkey. Turkey is making a great mistake and
losing the chance. Wrong approaches are insisted
about Kurd problem.
'Ocalan is the only person to stop the clashes'
Dündar stated that Turkey took a dangerous route and
if it insists on that a unreturnable process will
start and he said: "No one can adjust the dosage of
social tension. The starting and finishing points of
this kind of tension cannot be determined society
engineers. Kurds have been reacting this tension for
along time with tranquility."
Dündar stated that it is difficult to guess what
will happen next and a very difficult period for the
solution of Kurd problem has started and he also
said:
"The efforts to silence Mr. Ocalan will make the
period more difficult. Ocalan is the only person to
stop the clashes. Approaches against this, increases
the tension. We expect the government to take steps
for correcting the process. Otherwise, there will be
heavy outcomes. Trying to silence Ocalan by leaving
him without attorneys takes Turkey to a difficult
situation. This must be given up."
'The law is not carried out in Imrali even in
minimum level'
Attr. Hatice Korkut pointed out that the practices
started with isolation understanding and underlined
that the conditions in Imrali has been unlawful from
the beginning. Korkut stated that Imrali has been
claimed to be a prison but there is no regulation
about it and she said:
"No prison can be a prison without regulations. They
tried to issue an Imrali regulation and tried to
change the status of of Imrali Prison. Imrali trial
tries to become a lawful trial within isolation
politics. Even the minimum law standards are not
carried out in Imrali. There is no regular
collacutor. Soldier says: "I am not your collocutor
but prosecutor is." Prosecutor says: 'I cannot do
these' and sends us to Ministry of Justice. The
situation of Ministry of Justice is obvious."
'Press and intellectuals are also responsible for
tension'
Attr. Korkut drew attention to the recent tense
atmosphere and emphasized that press and the
intellectuals are also responsible for this tension.
Korkut underlined that everybody is responsible of
Turkey's future and he said:
"The law lost many things in Turkey with Ocalan
trial. You can impose anti-democratic practices to
society with daily solutions but these rules are
behind that society. When social development is in
contradictory with this, judgment, sense of justice
and also society suffer from that. The laws in
Turkey have started to get behind the social
structure. That is why we are in this kind of
negative process. Manipulating the law to dominate
the social structure causes serious problems. This
is the main problem in Turkey. Turkey cannot be more
democratic unless it solves Kurd problem. Everybody
has to admit that."
Korkut stated that a dilemma of "solution" and
"deadlock" is reached in Kurd problem and he added
that the future politics will define how this
solution will develop. Korkut stated that pretending
not to see Ocalan is the main reason of tension and
he said:" They even cannot stand the words. Only
thing he does there is to tell his thoughts. If it
cannot be stood that thoughts produced in a place
like Imrali with big security measures are told to
society, I am afraid that deadlock is a little bit
more preferred".
'Prohibition decision is the last stage of
unlawfulness'
Attr. Bekir Kaya stated that the attitude towards
Ocalan was also reflected to attorneys and he said:
"Since the situation is considered as Ocalan and
Kurds are on one side and official ideology
administrators are on the other, we, the attorneys,
were considered as identical with Ocalan side. We
were behaved as the other side since we participated
in that trial whatever our world view is. Especially
after 2001, inclination against us has increased.
When we share the situation of Ocalan with the
public we were proclaimed suits. Prohibition
decision for 8 of our friends to be the attorney pf
Mr. Ocalan is the last stage of unlawfulness".
Sensitivity call to public
Attr. Kaya stated that they are very worried the
process after 6 years and this practice against
attorneys do not have an example and he also said:
"These practices are mostly seen in underdeveloped
countries and authoritarian regimes. It is not
possible to see this kind of practices in countries
which try to be a EU member and democracy based
countries. We want all forces which care of Turkey's
future and want a permanent peace to be sensitive
against these practices. This approach is against
Turkey's future. It is all people's duty to turn out
this approach to be useless".
Kaya stated that they will continue their legal
struggle against those tendencies and asked for
public to assume a manner against this negative
process.
