Kongra Gel- Karayilan: Turkish Military operation should be stopped first! 17.6.2005

HABER MERKEZI (DIHA) - KONGRA-GEL Executive Committee Chairman Murat Karayılan, who evaluated a statement of Turkish and Kurdish intellectuals released yesterday, said they found the statement quite significant, and Turkey should stop military operations first for armed actions to be quit without any precondition.

"We are ready to make a sacrifice - to do our proportion of the work; yet, it must be known that everything on this subject resides in the government. Even a single statement of the prime minister can be enough to stop everything [ clashes], which is not being done", added Karayılan.
Speaking to The Mesopotamia News Agency (MHA), KONGRA-GEL Head Murat Karayılan told it is not they who had been putting violence on the table as means for last 7 years, but on the contrary, it is the Kurdish movement that has been carrying single-phasic attempts. Karayılan, who pointed out last year's decision the People Defense Forces (HPG) made on June 1 meant to be "legitimate right of defense/self defense", said the main reason behind this is that Turkey has been conducting military operations in the region.

"Isolation is fueling inciting the conflicts"

Karayılan also expressed his view that the continuation of the isolation applied on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the legitimization of this were realities that are fueling the clashes, and said they would defend themselves against the denial policies imposed upon the Kurds. "In Turkey, there are inner balances and conflicts that try to sacrifice the Kurds to these inner conflicts, which should be seen; yet, with this approach Turkey will lost not the Kurds. Turkey is dragging into pretty dangerous points with these policies, or being dragged. If not precluded, this environment of clashes will climb increasingly and may be able to exceed that of the early 90s. The course of the events is proceeding as such; unfortunately, Turkey's peoples and democracy would lose if it is going so. All the patriotic people of Turkey, no matter whoever they are- Kurdish or Turkish-, should struggle, which is a necessitation and civic duty from our point of view".

'The Kurdish movement was decided to be annihilated by violence'

Evaluating the statement of 140 Turkish and Kurdish intellectuals as a significant step taken towards solution of the Kurd Question, Karayılan called the declaration an initiative that had been delayed a little. "We were telling for a while, but there was none hearing us. The Turkish government had made the decision to annihilate the Kurdish freedom movement by violence, conveying the question to the army. In this connection, it has been carrying tens of thousands of its militaries to Kurdistan; 10,000 additional troops have been deployed to only Çukurca County, Hakkari. There is a state of a judgment, a decision had been made. There is a wind of attacks appearing in public".

US visit and the intelligentsia

Touching upon the intellectuals' demand that guerillas should their guns without any precondition, Karayılan implied that "now Mr. Intellectuals wants the guerillas to leave their arms without any precondition. If what they intend by this is to mean attack actions, this is acknowledgment and has no meaning; guerillas have to put their defense-aimed actions into practice in terms of their conditions. No one can tell you to obey being death and not to use your gun, while the army comes to kill you. As no one can tell this and the situation is as what is cited, operations should be terminated for the guns silence entirely; because, you cannot ask the arms to be silenced where there is an armed-oriented move. You have to make your demand from the both parties, which is meaningful. Turkish officials are themselves explaining that they have been assaulting on Diyarbakır, Bingöl and so on; therefore, operations should stopped first in these environment"

"We, as KONGRA-GEL, are replaying the intellectuals as such; 'If the operations have ended, we stop armed actions, too, by our impression and convincing power on the HPG. This is not a precondition, but a compulsory situation. To understand is necessary for the solution of the Question. In addition, what is appropriate to human dignity, his honor and the contemporary law is this. We are ready to do our proportion of the work to the last, yet no one can expect us to put an approach that will eradicate our reality forward. I think what the intellectuals have wanted is not this. We will also make attempts in order the collisions to be ended and for the Question to be solved. 15 Days ago, on June 1, 2005, we did make a cease-fire call, but the Turkish army augmented the operations. Now the intelligentsias, the voice of democracy, are saying the same. Of course, we are affirming this and thinking to broaden the attempts more; yet, it must be known that everything on this subject resides in the government. Even a single statement of the prime minister can be enough to stop everything [clashes], which is not being done. There is the role of domestic contradictions and balances. We think that the Justice and Development Party (AKP) have been playing a bad role and is trying to draw benefits from the conflicts. It is the AKP government that is responsible for 50 deaths in last month. Well, how was our June 1 call replied? Turkey did start the process that expands isolation. The Kurdish people has been protesting against the previous position of isolative implementations. These all should have been taken into account, but the AKP government regarded our people's volition as nothing. Secondly, military operation started increasing from the beginning of June. Thirdly, both the government and the army went to the USA to enter into an alliance with the US, for entirely annihilating our movement. While are attempting for peace, the other side is trying to destroy us. That is the way how our call of peace was responded", was quoted Karayılan as saying.

'Every one should be award of the truth'

"We know well that the course is going towards a process of serious clashes. As a requirement of the responsibility we feel for the Kurdish and Turkish peoples, we are expressing our view that we will do our proportion of work for the process of democracy and peace develops, save that the Kurdish people is going to defend itself against destructive assaults. No one should impose such policies, regarding the Kurdish people and its force as weak. Every one should be award of the truth", continued Karayılan.

Karayılan, who argued that the attitude Turkey has been imposing did not comply with the truth, said in one hand to set up a federation in the South and to conduct assaults in the North is not acceptable. We are telling the Turkish side that ' let's solve the question on our own. They do not acknowledge this; so the way left to us is to consider a probable international solution." Turkey should enter into Kurdistan with a proper policy not with its militaries, so we have demanded the democratic solution for 7 years. However they do not want to see that the Kurdish people cannot be counted as nothing. No one can admit that the Kurdish people be slaved", said Karayılan adding "There is the Kurd Question in Turkey, and there are millions of people behind the struggle which they call ''terrorist''.
