Children abandoned as couple vanish, 'Farik Farukh' an Iraqi Kurd, disappeared 3.6.2005

Police are hunting a couple who have vanished abandoning two young children.

Inga Losiene and Farik Farukh, both 32, left her children, aged six and 11, with babysitters at the weekend.

Ms Losiene, who is from Lithuania, said she was going shopping near her home in Southend, Essex, last Friday.

Mr Farukh, an Iraqi Kurd, disappeared from the seafront pub where he works two days later.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We are treating them as missing and there is nothing to suggest anything sinister, but we can't rule anything out."

Police today said they had found a car belonging to a couple who have vanished, abandoning two children.

Detectives are carrying out forensic tests on a blue-grey Rover belonging to Farik Farukh found in Suffolk yesterday.

Mr Farukh, an Iraqi Kurd, has not been seen since he left his partner’s children with a babysitter on Sunday, saying he would collect them after work at a pub.

When he did not show up, the alarm was raised and it was discovered that their mother, Inga Losiene, had disappeared two days earlier.

Ms Losiene, 32, who is from Lithuania, was last seen shopping near her home in Southend, Essex, last Friday.

Police today said they were growing “increasingly concerned” for the couple, who shared a house in York Road, Southend.

Detectives are speaking to the children, a girl aged 11 and a boy aged six, in a bid to trace the pair.

The youngsters are currently being cared for by relatives.

Police said Mr Farukh’s car had been found beside the A14 near Trimley in Suffolk yesterday and is undergoing forensic tests.

Officers said it was known Mr Farukh, 32, collected the children from school in Southend on Friday afternoon and drove them to Ipswich.

They said that as he drove back the next morning the car broke down and Mr Farukh had to flag down an elderly couple to get a lift to Felixstowe railway station.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We are treating them as missing and there is nothing to suggest anything sinister, but we can’t rule anything out.”

Ms Losiene is described as 5ft 4ins to 5ft 8ins tall, with shoulder length dyed blonde hair and blue eyes. She may be wearing a gold necklace. Mr Farukh is of Middle Eastern appearance with dark hair.
