KIRKUK, Iraq, June 13 (AFP) - 12h08 - A Kurdish
woman human rights activist has been kidnapped by
armed men in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, an
official from the Kurdistan Democratic Party said
Monday.
"Kurdish official and human rights activist Shiman
Ahmad Kader was kidnapped by unknown men in a
northern district of Kirkuk (on Sunday)," said Najat
Hassan Karim.
"We don't know where she is, but we accuse the
enemies of Iraq and the Kurds, those who want to
foment sectarian divisions, of being behind the
abduction."
Kirkuk, an oil hub some 255 kilometres (165 miles)
north of Baghdad, is an ethnic hotspot with its
population of Kurds, Arabs and Turkmen.

Reuters : Gunmen have kidnapped a Kurdish
women's rights activist in the Iraqi city of Kirkuk,
a Kurdish political party said .
Jaymon Qadir was kidnapped on Saturday in the city,
250 km north of Baghdad. Capital of the vast
northern oil fields, it is the focus of competing
claims to control by three ethnic groups, Kurds,
Arabs and Turkmen.
Mohammed Kamal, an official in the Kurdistan
Democratic Party (KDP) in Kirkuk, said police had
not obtained any information on her but "we accuse
the enemies of Iraq and the Kurds". KDP leader
Masoud Barzani was elected president of the Kurdish
autonomous region, north of Kirkuk, on Sunday.
The Kurds want Kirkuk as their capital, a demand
that has angered Arabs and Turkmen also vying for
influence in the city which lies south of the
present Kurdish borders.
