ANKARA, (AFP) - Turkey's broadcasting watchdog
said Friday it was taking four adult television
channels, including the Playboy Channel, off the air
on the grounds that they violated Turkish values.
Playboy, as well as Adult TV, Exotica TV and Rouge
TV broadcast late at night on the private Digiturk
cable network.
Television programs, the RTUK watchdog said in a
statement, "must conform with the public interest...
and the national, moral, human, spiritual and
cultural values of the Turkish nation."
The often controversial RTUK also said it was
issuing warnings to several other networks for
violating legal clauses dealing with "immodest
behavior" by running a perfume ad which it did not
identify.
