The Korean Overseas Information Service (KOIS)

The
channel is run by the Kurdish Regional Government
and can be seen all over the Middle East. The
program will air with Kurdish subtitles.
"The program is expected to enhance peaceful images
of the Korean troops there as well as Korea itself
among the locals,’’ KOIS official Shin Dong-hak
said.

Korean dramas ``Autumn Fairy Tale’’ and "Winter
Sonata’’ have already broadcast in Egypt last August
and this January, leading to thousands of fan
letters to the Korean Embassy in Egypt and to KBS.
KOIS has been promoting the Korean dramas as a way
of raising awareness of Korean culture around the
world.
"Winter Sonata,’’ depicting a tragic love story, has
drawn a large audience in East Asian countries,
including Japan, and contributed to the ``hallyu’’
phenomenon, or the popularity of Korean pop culture
throughout Asia. The drama also earned lead actor
Bae Yong-joon stardom in East Asia.
