BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A suicide bomber rammed his car
into a funeral procession for a slain Kurdish
official in northern Iraq Sunday, killing at least
20 people, Kurdish officials said.
The attack also wounded 30 people in the town of Tal
Afar near Mosul, about 390 km (240 miles) north of
Baghdad, the Kurdish officials said.
The Kurdish official, Taleb Wahab, was killed by
insurgents three days ago, said Abdel Ghani Yihya, a
Kurdish official in Mosul. Wahab belonged to the
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
Insurgents have in recent days carried out a furious
sequence of attacks, including more than 15 car
bombings in Baghdad that have killed dozens.
The upsurge comes after Iraq formed its first
democratically elected government in 50 years
Thursday, a new political arena led by Shi'ites and
Kurds that has left Sunni Muslims sidelined after
they dominated for decades under Saddam Hussein.
