AMMAN, (Reuters) - Iraqi President Jalal
Talabani will make his first foreign trip as head of
state to Jordan on Saturday to discuss closer
security and economic ties, Jordanian officials said
on Thursday.
Talabani, a Kurd who was chosen as the first
non-Arab president of an Arab nation last month,
will discuss with Jordan's King Abdullah efforts to
defeat the anti-U.S. insurgency in Iraq, which has
undermined postwar stability. The visit will last
two days.
Jordan's ties with Iraq suffered a setback after
protests broke out in Iraq in reaction to news
reports that a Jordanian man carried out the
deadliest suicide bombing in postwar Iraq.
Amman, a staunch U.S. ally, has given aid to
Washington's military campaign in Iraq and has
supported the administration's efforts to pacify
postwar Iraq.
