The
Kurds must not compromise on the Arab settlers in
Kirkuk. All Arab settlers in Kirkuk should be
evacuated. The Arabs cannot simply use the arguement
that they were born there, had been living there for
a long time etc. This arguement has been used by 1st
and 3rd world countries to justify sidelining
indigeneous people throughout the world.
If the Arab arguement is based on the simple fact
that they were born or had been living in Kirkuk for
"so long" and shouldn't be blamed for Saddam's
pan-Arabic policies, then why all the fuss about the
Israelis? The Israelis have been there since 1948 -
they have been born there, had been living there for
"so long," so why the persistent view of the Arab
and Muslim worlds that the creation of Israel is
illegitimate?
This viewpoint of Arabs, Persians, and Turks is
nothing more than an assertiveness of their biased
and skewed opinion towards other cultures and
religions. This view of their racial and religious
superiority over Jews, Kurds, and non-Muslims must
not go unchallenged.
The Kurds know that Kurdish lands remain in foreign
hands. Still, the Arabic, Persian, and Turkish
viewpoint remain that the Kurds are simply an
off-shot or splinter culture of the larger
Arab-Persian-Turk group. It is this racist and bigot
view that binds Kurds to its current dilema.
So why should the Kurds show any sign of sympathy
towards any Arab or Turk in Kirkuk? It is not that
the Kurds are embarking on an ethnic cleansing
campaign in Kirkuk. The Kurds are showing great
humanity and generosity in its willingness to
compensate the Arab settlers. Don't forget, these
Arab
settlers were not just mere spectators of Saddam's
bidding and cannot now claim innocent after having
lost power.
The Arabs, Persians, and Turks have shown time and
time again how low their morals are by continuing to
assert their claim over Kurdish lands. With support
from the Organization of Islamic Countries, as well
as other members of the international community, the
Arab-Persian-Turk policy of discriminating against
the Kurds in various forms has not received any
level of attention from the world.
The world is blind and deaf to the plight of each
and every Kurd. The current Kurdish achievement has
been achieved alone by the Kurd self-doing. Unity
between the KDP-PUK factions have helped cement this
new found Kurdish freedom. It is such unity that
keeps Kurdish culture alive and flourishing.
The violence in the Middle East will not abide even
if the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is resolved.
Unless the Arabs, Persians, and Turks own up to a
history of evil and admit guilt and wrong doings,
persecution and violence will continue to follow the
path of the Muslim world. The Muslim world continues
to be discriminatory against non-Muslims throughout
the world. But sadly, such oppression has not be met
for fear of offending Muslims and sparking their
revenge. Such a plight faces the indigeneous Maluku
islanders and the West Papua inhabitants under
Indonesian control - being slaughtered and ignored
by the world. Here, it is okay for the Indonesian
(Muslims) to occupy, plunder, convert, kill, and
rape. But
if it Israel killing one single person, even if it
were a terrorist, the majority world roars in unity
with the Arabs.
Unless the Kurds stand up for themselves, like the
peoples in Maluku islands and West Papua, the world
will turn a blind eye and keep a deaf ear.
