12 P.M. EDT, December 16, 2005, Washington DC, USA
The Committee for the Democratic Conference of
Syrian Kurds in North America
In view of the rapidly unfolding events in Syria;
the ongoing policy of suppression and brutal force
against the Syrian people in general, and of ethnic
discrimination against and refusal to acknowledge
the existence of the Kurdish people in particular,
who have been deprived of the most basic human and
national rights and against whom acts of repression
and arrests are carried out, particularly since the
popular uprising in Kurdistan of Syria; and the
complete absence of democracy in the Syrian
political system and failure to mention the rights
of Kurds in the Syrian constitution;
In view of the current circumstances, the pressing
need to unify the ranks of Kurds in Syria, and the
urgent need to open its doors to the international
community and decisively renounce all forms of
violence and terrorism, as the region stands on the
threshold of fundamental transformation, in order to
support the Kurdish people and their political
movement in Syria and firmly secure their rights;

society in promoting the democratic process in the
region and the overriding need to prepare for future
endeavors, in particular making the necessary
