Baghdad, 25 Dec.
- Iraqi officials say they want to re-arrest two
weapons scientists who had been reportedly released
by U.S. forces.
Last week, the U.S. military said they had released
a number of former officials in Saddam Hussein's
government.
They provided no details on their identity, but said
the detainees were freed because they "no longer
posed a security threat."
However reports said they include Huda Salih Mahdi
Ammash, nicknamed by the U.S. "Mrs. Anthrax," and
Rihab Taha, also known as "Dr. Germ." Both women
worked in Saddam Hussein's biological weapons
program.
Iraqi newspapers today quoted national security
council adviser Muwaffaq al-Rubaie as saying the two
were responsible for crimes committed under the
regime of former President Hussein.
