Kurdish authorities are
building a new power plant that will meet their
regions needs of electricity once completed.
Kurdish region’s Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani
has laid down the foundation stone for the
400-megawatt plant.
It is the largest project of its kind in the Kurdish
region in the past two decades.
The plant is being financed by both foreign and
local investors and is expected to be completed in
six months.
On completion the plant is expected to supply
continuous power to the region’s three provinces of
Dahouk, Erbil and Sulaimaniyah.
Power supplies in the region, as in the rest of the
country, are erratic and residents complain that
electricity maybe off for up to 20 hours a day in
some areas.
