In any case, whether we
would vote or not, you are accustomed to your
regular practice of filling the polling boxes and
cross the voting forms with a Yes vote of which we
are not aware. You will do this until the percentage
of Yes votes reaches the level talked about in the
time of the late dictatorship.
Of course neither is democracy such a wretched thing
as that you practise, nor is voting such a
meaningless thing that eventually the comic figure
of 100 per cent is achieved. I know that you never
want to become a home which is capable of hosting
democracy because you started your first election
trial in a paralysed way and turned election fraud
into a culture to train in it yourselves and the
generation after you.
Is the person who refuses to vote a traitor? Or is
he or she the son or daughter of one of the old
jashes [Kurds who betray their nation and serve
foreign masters] of the years of the [Saddam] regime
as you propagate via your TV channels? If you had
known even an iota of the meaning of democracy you
would not have confused the word treason with the
process of elections because those who have been
traitors are not us but your Excellencies. And those
who today embrace the jashes are not us but the warm
hospitality halls of the parties. Believe us:
neither were our fathers jashes, nor were we in love
with treason ourselves. Something which has made us
fed up and decline to vote is that all the jashes
and file-owners [those who have files of treason and
spying for Ba'ath party discovered in Iraq’s
intelligence offices after the fall of Saddam] are
in your arms but you wish to wipe your own fatty
hands off our heads.
Don’t ask why the young people do not vote? Ask what
your actions and achievements have been during the
last decade then you will clearly understand that
the silence and anger of the new generation are
neither due to unconsciousness nor carelessness. But
it is all related to the background of corruption
which your Excellencies have given us which make us
lose faith in everything.
Our votes [if we vote] will be for you personally
and not, as we want, for the big issues of
Kurdishness. Our votes will be for all those big
corrupt men who invaded our cities in the name of
revolution and now are indulging themselves in
eating away the dead body of our homeland. We will
vote for those revolutionaries who, hidden from us,
had [Iraqi intelligence] files. They will be for
those grand officials who refuse to ever give up
their seats and they want us to endow them with
Pharaonic powers.
Tell us apart from you is there a Kurd who is happy
to become an Iraqi gain? Now you do have high posts
in Iraqi power system. Why don’t you explain to us
what have you done for us? What have you achieved
except that no Kurd dares to travel to a city in
south Iraq because of your mistreatment of Iraqi
society? What you have managed to achieve the
authority of Ba’ath party could not create this
culture in 30 years: An Iraqi Arab sees a Kurd
anywhere, beheads him!
Are you conscious of your own unconsciousness? Are
you aware what tragedy you have left behind as a
result of your politics? In the past what was
killing the Kurds was the Iraqi system; now, you
have made all Iraqi society participate in this
killing.
However, don’t worry! We will vote for you. We will.
On your part, please remember:
Increase the percentage of the Ba'athist members of
the National Assembly;
We vote for you provided that you will appoint
bigger corrupt officials so that they will quickly
finish off what has been left from the dead body of
our country.
We vote for you so that you continue to prevent any
student to be admitted to the universities unless
they have the voucher [tazkiya].of the two big
parties.
We vote for you but please remember to make sure the
height of your palaces reach the seven skies and the
ghetto neighbourhoods of the poor people in Erbil
and Sulaymaniyah are further destroyed.
We will vote for you but in return we want you to
re-Anfal all the women who have survived [the
Ba’athist regime’s genocide campaign] anfal so that
they will enjoy your justice.
We will vote for you provided that you will go to
the graveyards of martyrs and ask their forgiveness
because you betrayed them.
If we vote, we will do this with all consciousness.
If we abstain, we do not care about your taunts and
accusation.
You are a generation used to create slanders against
your own people.
We will vote for you but please promise us that you
will be more corrupt.
