One Kurdish protester killed by Turkish police in Mersin

Kurdistan-Turkey, Nov 21- A Kurdish protester was killed and two others were wounded when Turkish police opened fire on demonstrators in the Çilek district of Mersin in southern Turkey on Sunday.

About hundred Kurdish demonstrators had gathered in the Çilek district to protest against the bomb attack on a Kurdish bookstore carried out by a Turkish intelligence unit on Nov. 9 in the city of Semdinli in Kurdistan (southeastern Turkey). The demonstrators blocked the Bekirde Street to traffic and chanted slogans in favor of the Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Kurdish resistance movement PKK.

Turkish police arriving at the scene clashed with the demonstrators who threw stones at the Turkish armored police vehicles. Turkish police opened fire on the demonstrators. Murat Demir (19) was killed immediately. Recep Çagla (18) was shot in the chest and Enver Ekinci (17) was shot in the knee cap. Çagla's condition remains critical.

8 Kurdish demonstrators were arrested by Turkish police. The Kurdish news agency DIHA's reporter Nesrin Yazar was also arrested by Turkish police when she took pictures outside the Toros State Hospital where Ekinci was taken.

An upset family member of Murat Demir tried to stab a Turkish police officer outside the hospital where Demir had been taken, but was stopped by other members of the family.

Tension remains high in the district.

Turkish armored police vehicle set on fire in Istanbul

NEWSDESK, Nov 20  - A Turkish armored police vehicle were set on fire and several people were injured when Kurdish youth clashed with Turkish police in the district of Küçükçekmece in Istanbul on Nov. 20.

The Kurdish youth had gathered in Kanarya in Küçükçekmece to read a statement and carry out a demonstration against the bomb attack carried out by a Turkish military intelligence unit on Nov. 9 on a Kurdish bookstore owned by a Kurdish politician from the pro-Kurdish party DTP party in the city of Semdinli in northern Kurdistan (southeastern Turkey).

The group set off walking to a nearby district, chanting slogans in favor of the Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Kurdish resistance movement PKK. Turkish police blocked the group's path on the 'Shahin street' and attacked the Kurds in order to disperse them. Kurdish youth decomposed the pavements throwing the stones on the Turkish police. A armored police vehicle was set on fire by several Molotov *censored*tails thrown by the Kurdish youth.

Turkish police from other districts were called to the scene of the clashes. The Kurdish groups dispersed into the cross streets continuing their clashes with police. 12 Kurds have been arrested until now. The 'Shahin street' has been locked down by Turkish police and the clashes are reportedly continuing in the cross streets between demonstrators and police.
