Turkey: Lawyers not allowed to visit Ocalan, isolation enters its 26th week 23.11.2005

Turkey, Nov 23 - The isolation of the Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan continues. Lawyers of Ocalan were once again stopped by Turkish military authorities at the military harbor port at Gemlik in western Turkey.

Ocalan's lawyers Ibrahim Bilmez, Rainer Ahues and the translator Ali Mesut Önen and Ocalan's sister Fatma Ocalan, were stopped by Turkish gendarmerie soldiers at Gemlik on the grounds that the lawyer's ferryboat 'Imrali-9' was broken.

The ferryboat 'Imrali-9' has for 26 weeks been frequently broken. Particularly on Wednesdays, the only day when Ocalan's lawyers and family members are allowed to visit their client.

Kurdish Leader , Abdullah Ocalan

The isolation of the Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan by the Turkish state has now entered its 26th week.

Number of signatories for Ocalan reaches 60,000 in Istanbul

In Istanbul, the number of signatories in the "Ocalan is my political volition" campaign (also called "The Ocalan Referendum") has reached 60,000.

"Our goal is at least one million signatories. We hope to reach it, even though we had to interrupt our activities due to the bomb attack in Semdinli and the protests that followed it," the campaign's Istanbul province spokesman Luftu Dag said.

The campaign will continue all over Turkey and Kurdistan until the end of January next year. The signatures will then be handed over to Turkey's president, the Turkish parliament, the European parliament and the United Nations.
