DIYARBAKIR,
Kurdistan (Turkey), Nov 11 (AFP) - 8h53 - A bomb
went off Friday outside a government building in the
mainly Kurdish southeastern province of Sirnak,
causing material damage but no casualties, local
officials said.
The bomb was placed under the car of a prosecutor in
the parking lot of the main government building in
the town of Silopi, several kilometers (miles) from
the Iraqi border, which houses the offices of the
local administrative and judicial authorities.
There was no immediate word on who was behind the
blast, which caused significant damage to the
building.
Kurdish rebels are active in the region and have
been blamed for similar attacks in the past.
The explosion followed two bomb attacks in the town
of Semdinli in the neighboring province of Hakkari
over the past two weeks, which raised tensions in
the region.
Southeastern Turkey has been the theater of a bloody
Kurdish rebellion for self-rule since 1984, which
has claimed some 37,000 lives.
Unrest in the region has increased considerably this
year after the rebel Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK),
blacklisted as a terrorist group by Turkey, the
European Union and the United States, called off a
five-year unilateral ceasefire in June 2004.
