Amnesty Int.: Kurdish refugees should be
protected

VAN,
Kurdistan-Turkey, (DIHA) - Amnesty International
(AI), prepared a report of 15 pages for Kurdish
people from Persia in Turkey. In the report where it
says that the situation of the refugees is serious,
it is demanded from Turkey to lift the geographical
limitation on them and give judicial and employment
rights and protection.
Amnesty International (AI), met 25 Persian-Kurdish
refugees about their situation in Van. AI
authorities asked UNHCR (United Nations) Van Office,
Van Police Department, Van Body of Lawyers, HRA and
Mazlum-Der (Society of the Oppressed)
representatives for information about the subject.
After research and interviews, a 15-page report
about the problems refugees experience was written.
The report was submitted to UNHCR EXCOM (UN
Executive Committee for Comissy of Refugees).
In the report, 'Amnesty International (AI) are
concerned about 1200 Persian-Kurdish who took refuge
in Turkey between 2001-2003 from Northern Iraq and
have been waiting for a permanent solution.'
'According to the Contract of 1951 about the Status
of Refugees and 1967Agreement, borders must be
ignored and all the refugees must be treated equally
within the range of judgement. This group of
refugees should be treated according to the 1994
regulations about refugees in Turkey. The rule of
Non-refoulement must be applied. All the refugees
who can get a visa from a third country must
be given the permission to leave Turkey and settle
there. They must be given such basic human rights as
employment, sufficient life standards and shelter.
Other individuals susceptible to attacks should be
given special care.'
Message to the Third Countries
In the report, various offers were submitted to the
UN Executive Committee for Comissy of Refugees for a
solution to the problems of the refugees.
'Grubun, üçüncü ülkelere yerleştirilmesi amacıyla
kendilerini savunmak ve yerleştirilmelerini
kolaylaştırmalıdır" denildi. Üçüncü dünya ülkelerine
de çağrı yapılan raporda, "Acilen mülteci grubunun
yerleştirilebilmesi için yerleşme olanaklarının
sağlanmalıdır" ifadeleri kullanıldı.
