Masoom Asks People of
Kurdistan to Participate in the Elections
(Al-Adala)
Deputy national assembly speaker Fuad Masoom
appealed to people in Iraqi Kurdistan to take part
in the coming elections. He discouraged them from
boycotting the polls, arguing that the tactic was
not an effective way to express their frustrations
with Kurdish parties. He added that the people have
the right to criticize the Kurdish government, and
that political parties and the government should
improve their services to meet the people's
expectations.
(Al-Adala is
issued daily by the Supreme Council of the Islamic
Revolution in Iraq.)
President Meets Pope
(Al-Ittihad)
President Jalal Talbani met with the Pope in Rome,
assuring him that Iraq is for all Iraqis regardless
of their ethnic or religious groups. He said there
was no difference or discrimination among Iraqis.
Talabani said Christians in Iraq practice their
rituals freely and enjoy equal political rights to
Muslims. He affirmed that Iraq is heading toward
democracy and prosperity and is building relations
with its neighbours. The country's new democracy
will make Iraq a friend of Italy, he added. He said
the former regime made a huge jail out of Iraq, with
mass graves lying underneath.

published daily by the Patriotic Union of
Kurdistan.)
Egypt to Mediate with Syria to Stop Insurgent
Infiltration
(Al-Mashriq)
Iraqi national security adviser Muwafaq al-Rubai
asked the Egyptian president, Hosni Mubarak, to
request that Syria stop allowing insurgents to
infiltrate Iraq. The United States and Iraq accuse
Syria of not doing enough to stop Arab and foreign
fighters from entering Iraq. He added that Iraq
bears no hostility against Syria but it won't allow
insurgents to flow from Syria to Iraq. He invited
the Egyptian president to visit Iraq.

published daily by Al-Mashriq Institution for Media
and Cultural Investments.)
Reconciliation Conference to be Held as Scheduled
(Addustour)
Arab League secretary-general Amr Musa said the
preparatory meeting for the national dialogue and
reconciliation will be held (as scheduled) in Cairo
on November 19. He added that representatives of
different political forces will attend the meeting
to prepare for the conference (which will be held in
Iraq next year.) Representatives from different
political spectrums, prominent figures and tribal
leaders are expected to participate.
(Addustour is an
independent daily published by former journalist
Basim al-Sheikh.)
Enhancing the Political Process
(Al-Sabah)
Al-Sabah has learned the names of 24 political
leaders who will take part in the national dialogue
and reconciliation conference in Cairo. At least 60
figures will represent various Iraqi groups in the
conference, which will be held on November 19.
Official sources told al-Sabah that among the
figures to attend the Cairo conference are Harith
al-Dhari, leader of the Association of Muslim
Scholars; former prime minister Iyad Allawi; senior
Sunni leader Adnan al-Dulaimi; deputy prime minister
Ahmad al-Chalabi; and Kurdistan region president
Masood Barzani. Politicians said visits by
high-ranking international officials to Iraq have
enhanced the political process and the national
dialogue conference. Foreign ministers from the
Cooperation Council of the Gulf States have also
lent their support to the Arab League initiative and
the rebuilding of Iraq.

daily independent publicly owned newspaper.)
