A
YOUNG father-of-one was killed when a police van
answering a 999 call ploughed on to the pavement
last weekend.
Ali Kanidagli, 24, from Stamford Hill, and another
pedestrian were mown down when the driver of the van
lost control in Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.
Mr Kanidagli, of Jones House on the Guinness Trust
estate, suffered multiple injuries and was
pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
Police in the van, which had its siren and flashing
lights on, were responding to a report of domestic
violence.
Married Mr Kanidagli had been a farmer in Turkey
until he arrived in Britain in 2001.
He was granted leave to remain in the UK this year,
after claiming asylum.
The Kurd was hoping his wife and three-year-old son,
still living in Turkey, would move to be with him
this month. |

His cousin, Ahmed Ganidagli, says his family has
been traumatised by the tragedy.
Mr Ganidagli, 25, of Whiston Road, Haggerston, told
the Gazette he could not bring himself to tell some
of his female relatives.
"We're all totally devastated," he said.
