1st Al Qabanji Festival (First Day)
Last Thursday, the proceedings of the 1st Al Qabanji
International Festival were launched in the city of
Sulaimaniyah. It is held on behalf of the culture
ministry, in cooperation with the culture ministry
in Kurdistan region, during the period of 24-27 of
this month.
In her speech, during the opening ceremony of the
proceedings of the festival, which is sponsored by
the republic president Jalal Al Talabani, Maysoon Al
Damlouji, deputy culture minister, said, "Despite
the passage of about two decades after his death,
the artist Mohamed Al Qabanji, the ambassador of
peace, and Iraqi keys and culture, is still bringing
us together with his originality and giving, as
culture is what brings people's hearts together,
granting them peace, stability and prosperity. As
for what is called the war culture and beating
drums, it is no-culture in reality, as it wastes the
most prominent resource that we posses, which comes
before oil and gas. This is the human resources,
which is the creator of culture.
Engineer Maysoon Al Damluji thanked the participants
in the festival from neighboring countries,
including Iran. Afterwards, the general manger of
the musical arts department Hassan Al Shakraji
delivered a speech on this occasion. He pointed out
that Al Qabanji is a symbol that appeared on the
arena of Arab music, where the Iraqi keys flourished
and spread at the hands of this genuine artist, who
started his journey since the beginning of the 20th
century. He proved his presence and set the keys in
the course of Arab singing. This was through the
historical stop of the Arab Music Conference, which
was held in Cairo in 1932, which was attended by the
greatest figures of Arab and international art,
including Abdel Wahab and the famous German
historian Kurt Zavz. Afterwards, a number of
speeches were delivered, including the speech of
Hussein Al Basri, the artists' representative, and
the speech of the culture ministry in Kurdistan
region.
Then, the festival proceedings started with morning
and evening sessions. These included songs of the
Iraqi key of the pioneer artist Mohamed Al Qabanji,
a play about his biography, Farida Band, Hussein
Mohamed Kamar and the Iranian band.
On the sidelines of the festival, Engineer Maysoon
Al Damlouji has launched the photography and
instruments exhibit, which included 100 photographs,
each representing a musical story from the past
century, Al Qabanji's life and pictures of the
pioneers of the musical movement in Iraq. The
exhibition included books and periodicals
specialized in musical issues and instruments.
Continuation of Al Qabanji's Festival Proceedings
– Second Day
The proceedings of the 1st Al Qabanji International
Festival continued in Sulaimaniyah city. The morning
sessions started with discussions on researches on
Al Qabanji's biography, including photographs, tape
recorders of the researcher Mohamed Abdel Hadi, a
research on the Iraqi Key - Roots, Horizons and
Future, by Dr. Hussein Ahmed Al Sharif, a research
on Iraqi key through the voice of four reciters
during the end of the first third of the 20th
century, a comparative study by the female
researcher Amal Ibrahim, and a research on the
capabilities and qualifications of Al Qabanji by the
researcher Haytham Sheoubi. The morning session
proceedings were attended by Engineer Maysoon Al
Damlouji, senior deputy culture minister, the
general manager of musical arts, and a number of
researchers and figures concerned with the issues of
the key in a number of bands, including Farida Key
Band, the Iranian Artistic Hawza and Al Basra Key
Band, which the audience admired.
Concluding the Festival Proceedings on the 27th
Yesterday (Saturday) the proceedings of the 1st
international Al Qabanji Festival were concluded.
During the closing ceremony, there was a seminar on
musical cultures for a number of researchers.
Several artistic bands have presented their works,
including The Iranian Religious Hawza Band,
Kurdistan Popular Arts Band, the Iraqi Key House
Band and the Iranian Shams Band.
Afterwards, the musical arts general manger has
delivered a speech in which he praised the role
played by the participating bands in the festival.
At the end of the festival awards and appreciation
certificates were distributed to participants.
