London, November 1: A number of controversial
questions were answered by Massoud Barzani, the
President of Kurdistan, in a conference, which was
held at Chatham House on Tuesday. The turn out was
rather low.
About Kirkuk and article 58, Barzani took his usual
line: the people of Kirkuk will vote, but not till
2007.
About Kurdistan government’s relation with Kurds of
other parts of Kurdistan, Barzani stated that the
states governing other parts of Kurdistan should not
be concerned about their Kurds demanding for
independence. “Independence is their right.”
“However,” Barzani added, “we don't want to
interfere with their affairs.” Barzani added that
they regard Kurds from other parts of Kurdistan as
their brothers and that they support them.

the PKK far from cites, in Qendil. He added that he
believes that most of the PKK members are in Turkey
fighting the Turkish army. He added that they have
seeing indications that Turkey now understands that
this conflict can only end through dialogue and
negotiation, “and if so we will support it fully.”
Barzani was asked about the potential relationship
between Syria and killing of Harriri. He said that
the assassination of Harriri has no impact on their
relationship with Syrian government.
Barzani was asked about having only Kurdistan flag
on the table, in the conference. He gave a brief
history of Kurdistan flag, and also said that the
Iraqi flag due to change and till then he only flies
the Kurdistan flag here and in Kurdistan. Barzani
stated when there is new Iraqi flag, “it will be my
honour to fly it even higher then Kurdistan flag” as
