ANKARA - Iraqi
President Jalal Talabani has assured the Turkish
government of full cooperation with the Turkish
military to root out bases of the outlawed Kurdistan
Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq in return for
financial aid, a news report said.
Talabani, who also heads the Patriotic Union of
Kurdistan (PUK) controlling part of Iraq's Kurdish
north, gave assurances on the PKK as well as
protection of Iraq's territorial integrity in secret
meetings with top Turkish officials, reported the
Kurdistan Observer's Internet news portal. |

Talabani discussed issues of security and ethnic
unrest in Iran's Kurdish-populated northwest when he
paid a ground-breaking visit to neighboring Iran
this week and held talks with President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad and top national security official Ali
Larijani. The Iranian government urged Talabani not
to provide any form of moral or logistic support to
Kurdish separatist movements and condemn the
prevailing status quo in its strongest terms,
according to Kurdistan Observer.
In both secret talks with Turkish officials and
meetings with Iranian officials during his visit,
Talabani has assured neighboring countries of
commitment and respect to the principles of
non-interference in the internal affairs of other
states, the report said.
Speaking at the end of his three-day visit on
Wednesday, Talabani said Iran has pledged to give
Iraq a $1 billion loan and $10 million in aid to
help with reconstruction efforts.
