TEHRAN, Nov 23
(KUNA) - Iraq is expected to receive a ten million
US dollars grant and a long-term one billion dollars
loan from Iran, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani
announced here on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters at the conclusion of a two-day
visit to Iran, Talabani said officials in Tehran
have pledged to transfer Iranian reconstruction
experience to Iraq. He said talks with Iranian
officials covered oil and gas issues, Iranian
pilgrims' visits to sacred places in Iraq, which
have an impact on the improvement of the Iraqi
economy.
He stressed that the Iraqi government's strategy was
aimed at the establishment of a unified economy and
suitable relations with Iran. "We feel conditions
are available for establishment of the best links
between the two countries", he said.
Talks also covered a project to resume the Basra-Khorramshaher
rail road in a bid to link Iraq with central Asia
and China, said Talabani, who arrived here
yesterday.
On his part, Iranian President Ahmadi Nejad
expressed hope for stability to prevail in Iraq and
that an elected government to rule in the
neighbouring country. |
