Head of the Islamic group calls Talabani and Barzani to release 35 of its supporters 19.11.2005

Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan-Iraq – Sheikh Jamal Ali Bapeer, head of the Islamic Group in Kurdistan region (north of Iraq) called the leaders of the Kurdistani Democratic Party Massoud Barzani, and the Kurdistani national Union, President Jalal Talabani, to release 35 of its supporters, who have been detained during the past months.

In a press conference, Bapeer said, "I am demanding the Kurdistani democratic Party to release 30 members of my party, who have been detained during the past months. I am also calling the National Union to release 5 of my supporters."

It is worth noting that the American forces have detained Bapeer Kam after the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime in April 2003. He was imprisoned for 22 months for suspicions of his link with the armed Islamic movements. Bapeer was released a few months ago. During the past two days, he was elected as a head (prince) of the Islamic Group in Kurdistan, which is an Islamic party that separated from the Islamic movement in Kurdistan in 2001.
