Baghdad, 7 Nov.
(AKI) - Iraq's president Jalal Talabani on Monday
began an official visit to Italy where he will meet
senior government and state figures.
His delegation includes agriculture minister, Ali
Husayn al-Bahadli, foreign minister Abd al-Basit
Mawlud Karim, the president's military advisor Wafiq
al-Samarra'i, the president's official spokesman and
Abbas al-Bayati, an Iraqi MP, Talabani's office said
in a statement.
"Talabani will meet Italy's president Carlo Azeglio
Ciampi, prime minister Silvio Berlusconi and other
ministers, as well as the heads of political
parties, to study the relations between the two
friendly nations and to boost these ties, the
support of donor countries and the European Union,
and the aid offered by the Rome government to
Baghdad.
Talabani is also expected to take part in a
conference on inter-religious dialogue, where he
will speak on behalf of Iraq. He will also have an
audience with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican.
After the Italian trip, Talabani's delegation will
go to Austria for a state visit. |
