Four month isolation for 27 female PKK prisoners in
Sivas
NEWSDESK, Oct 27
(DozaMe) - Kurdish female PKK prisoners in the Sivas
E-type Closed Prison were punished with four month
isolation by the Turkish prison authorities for
having carried out a two-day hunger strike in
protest of bad prison conditions.
The 27 female PKK prisoners carried out a two-day
hunger strike and wrote protest letters to the Sivas
prison authorities. The prison authorities answered
by punishing them with four month of isolation. The
prisoners are not allowed to have visitors, talk
with relatives on phone, socialize with other
prisoners, join social or sport activities and get
or send mail.
The female prisoners had written a letter to the
Sivas prison authorities protesting their and the
Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan's prison
conditions. Two female PKK prisoners in the Sivas
E-type Prison, Aynur Epli and Hatice Çakmak, have
for long been in a very bad health condition and
need immediate care, the prison authorities were
told in the letter. The prison authorities were also
told that every application written by the PKK
prisoners to request hospital care for their sick
comrades had been turned down.
The lawyers of the female PKK prisoners will now
take the case to the European Court of Human Rights.
Isolation of Ocalan enters its 22th week
October 26, Lawyers and family members of the
Kurdish national leader Abdullah Ocalan were once
again stopped from traveling to the Turkish Military
Isolation Prison on the island of Imrali to meet
with Ocalan.
The obstacle was once again a damaged boat, so the
Turkish military officials at the Gemlik seaport
claims. Lawyers of the Kurdish leader have been
blocked for the 22th week from meeting the Kurdish
leader. The majority of the reasons given by the
Turkish authorities have been a damaged boat or
severe weather conditions.
International and local human rights groups,
European observers and lawyers of the Kurdish leader
have long asked for the Turkish government to move
Ocalan to a prison facility on the mainland. The
government has refused to do so, without giving any
reason.
Kurds are now worried that something may have
happened to Abdullah Ocalan. Tension is likely to
rise in Turkey and Kurdistan in the coming weeks.
