Retired Turkish army officers plans a provocative
march in Amed
NEWSDESK, Oct 13
- Retired Turkish officers from TESUD (Retired
Officer's Association of Turkey) is planning to
carry out a demonstration in the Kurdish capital of
Amed (Diyarbakir) in northern Kurdistan
(southeastern Turkey) on the 'Republic's Holiday' on
October 29.
The association has named their march "Republic's
march from all parts of the nation to Diyarbakir"
which will start with a gathering in Istanbul on
October 26 and from there move to Ankara. On October
27, the association will go to Elazig in northern
Kurdistan and on the same day move on to Malatya.
TESUD is planning to arrive in Amed on October 28
and stay there for the Turkish 'Republic's Holiday'
on October 29.
TESUD's march is seen as a provocative demonstration
with the purpose to answer the September 4 Gemlik
March which was organized by DEHAP and several other
Kurdish NGOs from northern Kurdistan (southeastern
Turkey). The Gemlik March was blocked by Turkish
authorities and the Kurdish demonstrators were
stopped at strategic cities and towns with a
majority of Turkish nationalists. The Kurdish
demonstrators were then attacked and beaten up by
thousands of nationalists for over six hours until
the Turkish police were ordered to move in and stop
the massacre.
AKP and DEHAP in Amed is opposing the march while
the Turkish ultra-nationalist MHP is supporting it.
