Village Guards in Hakkari accused of working with
the PKK
NEWSDESK, Oct 11
- Village Guards in the Semdinli district of Hakkari
in northern Kurdistan (southeastern Turkey) were
accused by Turkish officers of working with the PKK.
The accusation led to the Village Guards disarming
themselves.
On October 5 at 2300 (11 pm EEST), Village Guards
from the Kurdish village of Di (Uzunkiran) were
heading together with gendarmerie soldiers from the
Durak gendarmerie station located about 20 km from
Semdinli, to a location where they had planned to
ambush HPG guerrillas.
Tension was caused when a Turkish non-commissioned
officer demanded the Village Guards to hand over
their cell phones accusing them of informing the HPG
guerrillas about ambushes. The Village Guards then
aborted their involvement in the mission and handed
over their guns to the Durak gendarmerie station.
Turkish military authorities from the Semdinli Field
Commandership assigned to solve the issue failed
trying to convince the Village Guards to take up
arms again.
