DIYARBAKIR,
Kurdistan-Turkey, Oct 20 (AFP) - Two separate
bomb blasts rocked the mainly Kurdish southeastern
Turkish cities of Batman and Yuksekova on Thursday,
causing material damage but no casualties, security
sources said.
Police suspect the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party
(PKK) to be behind the explosions, but have not
reached a definite conclusion yet, the sources said.
The first bomb exploded in front of a shop in the
town of Yuksekova, which lies close to the Iraqi and
Iranian borders, at 4:30 am (0130 GMT).
The second bomb went off at 12:05 pm (0905 GMT) in a
lavatory on the third floor of the courthouse in
Batman.
The PKK, considered a terrorist group by Ankara, the
European Union and the United States, is active in
the region and has been blamed for similar attacks
in the past.
The group, which has waged a separatist campaign for
Kurdish self-rule in the southeast since 1984,
called off a six-week unilateral ceasefire with
Ankara earlier this month.
