A
jobless man who killed an immigrant father of two in
a frenzied knife attack on two strangers in
Tottenham has been sentenced to life in prison.
Robert Lake, 34, attacked a 70-year-old Jamaican man
at a bus stop by Tottenham Sports Club in the High
Road in October 2003, stabbing him twice and
stealing cash.
Minutes later he attacked Imam Ortac, 30, just yards
away as he went to buy milk from the shops.
The Turkish Kurd - a married father of two daughters
aged two and five who had fled violence in Turkey in
1998 to be granted asylum here - was stabbed
multiple times and was also robbed of cash. He died
of his wounds, but Lake's 70-year-old victim
recovered.
Lake, of no fixed address, was convicted at Basildon
Crown Court.
He was sentenced to life for the murder of Mr Ortac
plus eight years for attempted robbery and another
eight years for robbing the Jamaican man.
