ERBIL, Oct 23 (KUNA) - The president of the
Iraqi northern province of Kurdistan, Massoud
Barzani, flew to Washington on Sunday to meet with
US President George W. Bush at the latter's
invitation.
During the trip, Barzani is also expected to pay a
visit to the United Kingdom.
"My visit to the US is aimed at meeting with the US
president, politicians and some members of the US
Congress," Barzani said before boarding a plane
bound for the US capital.
He added that he would
discuss with Bush the political developments in
"Iraq in general and Kurdistan in particular." He
expressed hope that the visit would bear the
expected fruit.
Barzani stressed that he would also visit Britain
and meet there with British Prime Minister Toni
Blair "to discuss with him the political situation
in Iraq." Barzani had, during the current month,
received an invitation to visit Bush through US
Ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalil Zadah.
The Kurdish delegation to the US and Britain
includes the Prime Minister of Kurdistan, Negervan
Barzani and Iraqi Planning Minister Barham Saleh and
some Kurdish members of the Iraqi National Assembly.
