BAGHDAD, - Arab
League Secretary-General Amre Moussa on Thursday met
with Speaker of the Iraqi National Assembly Dr.
Hajim Al-Hassani.
Spokesperson for Al-Hassani's office Muhannad
Abduljabbar told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the
two sides discussed the Iraqi political developments
and the Arab League's role in helping Iraq out of
the current situation.
Abduljabbar added that Al-Hassani touched on the
complications and challenges facing Iraq and the
importance of solving them, asserting the importance
of opening an Arab League office in Iraq to
establish continuous contacts and closely follow-up
with the latest developments.
Meanwhile, Moussa expressed the Arab League's
concern on establishing peace and stability in Iraq,
protecting interests of the Iraqi people, and
assisting the Iraqis in achieving their ambitions.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of
holding a national dialogue conference that includes
all Iraqi political powers.
In a joint press conference with Moussa, Iraqi Vice
President Dr. Adil Abd Al-Mahdi asserted that Moussa
is leading a delegation to Iraq and is representing
all Arab countries in a mission that aims at
supporting the political process here, combating
terrorism and insurgency, and encouraging national
dialogue and unity.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Kurdistan Democratic
Party Fadhel Mirani told reporters that Moussa is
expected to visit the Kurdistan Region in northern
Iraq to meet with Kurdistan President Massoud
Barzani.
Mirani added that Kurds highly appreciate the Arab
League's visit, noting that they will call on Moussa
to help Iraq in combating terror and demand the
neighboring countries to close their borders in the
face of terrorism and cooperate with Iraq to
establish security and stability.
