American forces open fire at civilian vehicles, two injured in Sulaimaniyah 13.10.2005

Sulaimaniyah Kurdistan-Iraq, - Sarkut Hassan, security director in Sulaimaniyah province (Kurdistan-north of Iraq), which is dominated by the Kurdish National Unity Party, headed by the President Jalal Talabani, has accused the American forces of opening fire at civilian vehicles and causing the injury of two civilians.

Hassan said, "The day before yesterday evening, an American force, which was heading to Dukan from Sulaimaniyah City (330 km north of Baghdad), opened fire at a number of civilian vehicles. This resulted in the injury of citizens and caused damage to more than 10 civilian vehicles."

He clarified that this force has entered Kurdistan region, which enjoys relative calmness compared to other Iraqi regions, for the first time. This force was coming from Diala province (northeast of Baghdad), which is witnessing frequent violence actions. Therefore, it acted in the same manner it adopted there.

Hassan added that the American forces have apologized after the accident and informed the authorities of Kurdistan region that they would compensate those harmed by the accident.
