Erbil - A source in Ibrahim Al Khalil borders
complex stated, "The Turkish authorities have closed
their borders with Kurdistan-Iraq and prohibited the
entry or exit of any cars to and from it since
Thursday."
The source added, "After we were informed of this
sudden procedure, we contacted the officials on the
other side of the borders, who informed us that it
is a technical issue and would be handled with the
necessary speed.
Nevertheless, the border remained close for more
than 24 hours, which led to heavy traffic at the
outlet, where tens of travelers have gathered in
their vehicles, side by side with the Turkish
truckers who are transporting materials to Iraq
through the iron gate there.
They have demonstrated against this procedure. Yet,
the Turkish authorities have only allowed passengers
to go through the gate on foot and have prohibited
the passage of vehicles." The source said, "Tens of
travelers bearing legal visas are gathering to enter
Turkey, in addition to Turkish truckers, who desire
to return to their country and are not allowed to go
through the gate." It is worth mentioning that
Ibrahim Al Khalil's gate is the only borders' outlet
between Turkey and Iraq.
