Salam Al Maleki,
transport minister, has expressed the readiness of
the General Company of Iraqi Airlines to transport
25 thousand pilgrims to the holy places during the
next season from the airports of Baghdad, Basra
(Iraq), Erbil, Sulaimaniyah (Kurdistan)
He clarified that a special committee has been
created for following up securing the planes that
would transport the pilgrims through renting them
from several global companies for the purpose of
transporting them from the aforementioned airports.
In a statement to reporters, he said, "We do not
have any problem with transporting the pilgrims. The
preparations are all set." Directions have been
issued for speeding up with the completion of the
procedures for renting the planes. There is a
committee that was created for following up the
matter.
It is worth mentioning that by the end of last week,
the head of the Hajj and Omrah Committee in the
ministers' council has announced that about 25
thousand pilgrims would be leaving to the holy
places by air from Iraq. In statements to reporters,
the minister pointed out that the ministry has a
plan for purchasing some planes and that there are
previously signed contracts and it might also be
handled through the international grants with global
companies, in this regard.
He noted that the company would launch flights to
Frankfurt and London next month, in addition to a
flight to Tehran after Eid Al Fitr holiday, after
approximately 30 years of suspension.
